Do you have a Ouija board at your home? Have you ever tried using it? If yes, what experiences did you have with it? Are they good, or bad? If you haven’t used it yet, will you ever try it?
If you answer yes, I urge you to listen to this book first for it might change your mind.
If you are fond of excitement, thrills, and suspense, you might be encouraged to bring the board out, call out some adventurous friends, and light up the candles. As you already know, participating in a séance using a Ouija board is a choice. Many people believe it’s a ridiculous thing, so they won’t even be bothered: when asked if they would like to try it, they would simply shake their heads no.
Others find it interesting; how can you not when you can – if you’re lucky – talk to a dead person and learn something about their life when they were still a part of the living world? However, there are those who hated the idea of Ouija boards and yet, they still played with it.
In this book, you’ll find nine creepy, true stories of Ouija board experiences. You might not believe some of them, but please keep an open mind.
It was a night like the one tonight. The moon peeked behind the dark clouds, and the rain pelted loudly against the windowpane. Rain was not in the plans for the night. I wanted to hang out outside with my friends in the driveway and play some basketball before retiring for the night and watching a scary movie. It’s not often that my friends get to sleep over, and I wanted it to be something fun and memorable, not wet and miserable. But then, John had a trick up his sleeve. He opened up his backpack and pulled out something that would forever change me – it was a Ouija board. I’d never played with one, but I’d known about it from other kids at school, and, to be honest, none of the stories I’d heard sounded fun. It was quite the opposite. The stories were downright creepy and terrifying! No way will I ever play with one of those things. And now, within arm’s reach, John held the board, and then, with excitement that sent shivers down my spine, he proclaimed, “Let’s play!“
This was how many of the stories in Ouija Board Stories: Terrifying Eyewitness Accounts of Real Life Ouija Board Experiences began, as a means of having fun which, as it turns out, is anything but. The stories reminded me of myself as an adolescent when my friends and I would play with the board. It was, as described in the aforementioned paragraph, taboo and something my Catholic mom frowned on and forbade me to play in our NYC apartment. One day someone brought one to school – a Catholic school no less. There, they claimed that the board was working, and they were in contact with someone or something. I was immediately enamored, and I was hellbent on picking one up for myself.
As is everything when you’re a kid, one way or another, you will make anything happen so long as it is within your means. I was no different, and I became the proud and nervous owner of a bonafide Ouija Board that I bought at a toy store. It was only a matter of time before I gathered a few brave souls, and my older brother, to partake in the game. The rest, as they say, is history, and to this day, we have tales to tell about those nights with the Ouija board.
Ouija Board Stories played out in such a similar manner where the stories featured in the book were tales passed on to the author, Roger P. Mills, as truth or perceived as truth. They were mere accounts not investigated to route out fact from fiction. Tales told around a campfire to scare your friends. Sure, when I used the board so many years ago, things happened, but can I say that what happened was real? No, but it certainly felt real. I was young, and my imagination was rampant, I look back at those times as fun times of my youth, not traumatizing events that live with me until this day. I yearned for something to occur and even embraced something, anything, to happen. Of course, times have changed, and I err on the side of caution, just in case.
I am a sucker for Ouija board stories, and while some may find the stories silly, I found a good part of them to be creepy and fun at the same time if that makes sense. It could have been the nostalgia that it induced in bringing me back to my youth and that feeling of adrenaline and fear invoked when using the board. Whatever it is, Ouija Board Stories: Terrifying Eyewitness Accounts of Real Life Ouija Board Experiences was a blast to read, or listen, to in my case. If there were one complaint I would have to make is that it is much too short, and it left me hungry for more!
